Nope- it’s not always exciting to give or ask for help for something like fuel, but with diesel prices surging to $25 per gallon, we really need some help to keep the kilns running and our potters working. Good news! Vesta made it through her hysterectomy! Thank you for the donations we received that continue to allow these special people to get the help they need.

The minimum wage in Haiti is about $5 per day for

The minimum wage in Haiti is about $5 per day for most jobs. And yet it’s costing people up to $4 per day for transportation because of the skyrocketing fuel crisis. 💔Although our artisans make much more than minimum wage, the fuel costs are still gauging them and making it a huge barrier for them to get to work. (Gas is selling for $25 per gallon as the fuel sources keeps getting hijacked by the gangs)
I’ve had a few people reach out and ask if there is any way to help. So here is the need:We have about 60 artisans who need about $20 for a week of transportation until this situation is resolved. If anyone wants to help, we are accepting donations at PapillonEmpowerment.org through the general fund to offset these unexpected costs so that they can use the money they earn for food and school and other important basic needs instead of losing a good chunk just on getting to and from work. $20 isn’t huge for most of us, but could be life changing for them this week. Just putting this need out there in faith! Thank you so much for caring!

Haiti runs with Tap-Taps. They are brightly painted trucks that serve as transportation for almost everyone. I’m on a group chat with many of the artisans and for the third day in a row no one can find transportation to work. The gangs are threatening people who try to be out in the streets and have cut off the fuel supply and are demanding ransom money to allow the fuel to get to the pumps. What’s left of the government is trying to negotiate. The end result is that it continues to be a ghost town. Fuel for hospital generators, fuel for emergencies, fuel for production, fuel for grocery stores are all causing life threatening problems for the majority of the country who live on daily provisions. Our artisans missing work results in possible delayed orders, lost wages, and further setbacks. I believe that the Haitian people need relief and don’t see how internally that can happen right now. It’s a rough situation.
What can we do about it from America?
-Support Haiti made businesses and non profits working in Haiti and let your representatives know that you care about helping Haiti.-
Though it’s not making news, this is a dire situation. If we could look into just one families home and see the worry on a young mother’s face about how she is going to feed her already undernourished kids today, any one of us would buy them dinner to help them through something that is not at all their fault.

We are currently financing all medical bills, her food in the hospital, as well as an attendant to take care of her and cook for her in the hospital. We are still trying to figure out what is wrong with Yvonne. She is now checked in to the hospital, we have someone lined up to care for her kids and are finding someone to stay with her and cook and take care of her since food is not provided in the hospital.
