"Many hands make the load light"

How does family support work?

A family of four currently needs over $600 per month just to have their most basic needs such as food, water, shelter, and education met. This number has almost doubled in recent years (from around $300) and Haitians are struggling with the rising cost of living to have their basic needs met more than ever.

While Papillon Marketplace seeks to operate as a bridge that markets and sells the beautiful work that the artisans make, the current violence in Haiti, rising operational costs to maintain the artisan facility and equipment they use, and difficulty getting product out of Haiti have made it necessary to look for additional charitable support for the people we work with in Haiti. We simply cannot sell enough to make sure that everyone is taken care of in these difficult moments.

Your support goes directly to artisan families in order to provide a safety net for their basic needs to be met. While you will be choosing a specific family, the resources from all support will be pooled and equally distributed among all artisans until they are all fully sponsored. It is important that a culture of jealousy does not arise if one artisan has what they need and another does not.

These funds are not in lieu of working, but will rather make sure that there are enough resources to continue to call them in to work where they will receive continued training, work on new designs, and fulfill orders as they present themselves.

While our goal is to have families, churches and community groups support a family at $300 per month, we are thankful for whatever support they get and thus several supporters who give less than $300 might have the same family.
